About The Trust:
The George & Thomas Henry Salter Trust is a charity registered with the Charity Commission under number: 216503.
The Trust was set up in 1918, under the Will of George Salter. Mr Salter left 100 shares of £100 each in his company ‘George Salter and Company Limited’, to the Trust.
His company specialised in making weighing machines and scales and was very successful. It is the “Salter” manufacturer of scales etc. that we know today. As he opened his first factory in West Bromwich, George wanted to provide help for the local community, so he set up the Trust to be used to help support those in need, the organisations that support them and to help with the education of the younger generation in schools and higher education.
The benefit of the Trust has now been extended to cover the entire area of the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.
